Support & Appreciation
The MPTO sponsors numerous committees and events throughout the year that support the teachers and staff of Matthews Elementary. The MPTO weekly newsletters and monthly meetings are a great way to find out what is going on at any given time throughout the year.
Classroom SupportRoom Parents: At the beginning of each school year, the MPTO solicits volunteers for this important role. As a room parent, you support your child's teacher with various tasks, plan class parties and act as a liaison between your classroom parents and the MPTO. The MPTO Room Parent Coordinators hold an informational meeting with all room parent volunteers to help you get started and to know where to go for additional information and support.
Clerical Team: Volunteers on this team work one morning or afternoon per week making copies, laminating, die cutting and completing other special projects as requested by our MES teachers and staff. The work of this team allows our teachers to devote more of their time to classroom instruction. |
Book Fair SupportBook Fair: Held twice a year, this event is always highly anticipated by MES students and staff alike. With a wide variety of the latest children's best sellers, as well as treasured classics, the Book Fair helps students get excited about reading and also gives them a chance to donate new books to their teachers for their classroom libraries. The proceeds of the Book Fair are used to buy additional books and other items for the Media Center. Volunteers are always needed to help out during the Book Fair.

Staff AppreciationStaff Appreciation Week: While the MPTO does its best to support our MES staff every day, each year it selects one special week that is all about the MES staff. Staff Appreciation Week allows parents and students multiple opportunities to show their gratitude to teachers and staff alike for all that they do for our children. The week culminates with a special lunch catered by the MPTO. Volunteers are needed to help plan and implement, as well as cover in the classrooms while the teachers attend the lunch.
Staff Hospitality: At various times throughout the year, the MPTO provides food and refreshments for MES teachers and staff including a welcome back to school, Holiday Cookie Exchange and the end of the year luncheon. Volunteers are always needed to help provide baked goods and other items for these events. |
